So after a short stint with my new site through Evrium.com, I have decided my website needed to “evolve”. While the current site is getting the job done, it’s just not getting it done the way that I had hoped. I’ve found a few functionalities that I want that aren’t yet available with them and coupled with it’s inability to load up in a browser or system without Flash support, a change was needed. As well with the spread of iPhone usage, I needed to address the ability to view my site on that nifty little device to.
If you’ve read this blog, you’ve seen me here before, what to do now???
Enter APhotoFolio.com – a site design co. that is run by long time Photo Editor and author of APhotoEditor.com. Rob Haggart has had some inspiring and eye opening insights on his APE blog for a long time and recently started his APF company, dedicated to providing photographers a relatively affordable and effective web site option with a multitude of Pro Level web tools – listed here.
The sites by APF offer an extremely effective frontend site delivery and also deliver a robust backend interface rivaling the most popular of the professional photography sites, including LiveBooks.com and ClickBooq.com. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have a Livebooks site, I just can’t see fronting the cash for a site that seems honestly a bit less flexible than APF sites. I fell in love with Chase Jarvis site a long time ago and that’s what started me searching for a better web presence. However with APF, I get what the LiveBooks clients are getting plus quite a bit more…see here and here for the comparisons. Now what you don’t get is a designer to tell you how to actually put it all together. Then again, I haven’t asked APF or Rob for help yet on that, so I could be wrong. But my guess is if you’re in the visual arts field, you shouldn’t have much of a problem here
My first interactions with the control panel and site design have been good, although a bit clumsy at times learning the new interface. I suppose after a few more hours I’ll have a good handle on the “feel of the wheel”.
I’ll be posting my progress as I build out the design and trick out some of the options. In fact this blog will likely move to the new site with me….Albeit a bit better stlyed then I hope.
Updates to follow shortly….
