Web edit again…

So after a short stint with my new site through Evrium.com, I have decided my website needed to “evolve”.  While the current site is getting the job done, it’s just not getting it done the way that I had hoped.  I’ve found a few functionalities that I want that aren’t yet available with them and coupled with it’s inability to load up in a browser or system without Flash support, a change was needed.  As well with the spread of iPhone usage, I needed to address the ability to view my site on that nifty little device to. ;)

If you’ve read this blog, you’ve seen me here before, what to do now???

Enter APhotoFolio.com – a site design co. that is run by long time Photo Editor and author of APhotoEditor.comRob Haggart has had some inspiring and eye opening insights on his APE blog for a long time and recently started his APF company, dedicated to providing photographers a relatively affordable and effective web site option with a multitude of Pro Level web tools – listed here.

The sites by APF offer an extremely effective frontend site delivery and also deliver a robust backend interface rivaling the most popular of the professional photography sites, including LiveBooks.com and ClickBooq.com.  Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have a Livebooks site, I just can’t see fronting the cash for a site that seems honestly a bit less flexible than APF sites.  I fell in love with Chase Jarvis site a long time ago and that’s what started me searching for a better web presence.  However with APF, I get what the LiveBooks clients are getting plus quite a bit more…see here and here for the comparisons.  Now what you don’t get is a designer to tell you how to actually put it all together.  Then again, I haven’t asked APF or Rob for help yet on that, so I could be wrong.  But my guess is if you’re in the visual arts field, you shouldn’t have much of a problem here :)

My first interactions with the control panel and site design have been good, although a bit clumsy at times learning the new interface.  I suppose after a few more hours I’ll have a good handle on the “feel of the wheel”.

I’ll be posting my progress as I build out the design and trick out some of the options.  In fact this blog will likely move to the new site with me….Albeit a bit better stlyed then I hope.

Updates to follow shortly….

Back at it…

So it’s been quite a while since I’ve been posting but I am now going to be posting weekly status updates…behind the scenes shots…and random ramblings. :) Oh goodie for you…

I’ll also be trying to use the wordpress app on my iPhone to give updates for many of the on-location work upcoming.

Well, long story short because right now I’m just crazy busy….

We had what was one of the scariest weather fronts I’ve ever seen come right overhead of our neighborhood.

While I should have had my full camera gear bag out, I didn’t.  As Chase Jarvis just pointed out on his blog it’s always a good idea to have a camera around at all times, even if it is an iPhone!  LOL.

Here’s a couple quick videos I captured as my wife was yelling politely coercing me into the house and down to the basement.

About 32 seconds into the “storm18″ clip, I realized it was time to get inside.

No one was injured, maimed or left behind before during or after this video.

Luckily it didn’t touch down near anyone.

Getting settled….

With changes happening all around, I’ve finally made the jump to a new site as well.

Check out my new site here.  It’s been a long time coming and I hope it’s as nice of a place as I hoped it would be :)

I’ll be posting soon about the process that has led me to my new site.  Stay tuned….
